The JobSeeker payment

It has never been more important for the social security safety net to be strong in this country.

Many families, workers and business owners who have never accessed social security before are being forced to by the financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Centrelink was not prepared for an event like this, and the Morrison Government’s cuts to the Department of Human Services certainly haven’t helped.

The Government has so far rejected Labor’s constructive suggestions to provide meaningful support to temporary visa holders who cannot return to their home country, including skilled migrants, seasonal workers and international students. Labor will continue to pressure Minister Anne Ruston and the Morrison Government to extend a safety net to everyone who needs it.
